Advocacy

American Association of Retired Persons (AARP)
AARP is a nonprofit, nonpartisan organization, with a membership of more than 37 million, that helps people turn their goals and dreams into real possibilities, strengthens communities and fights for the issues that matter most to families such as healthcare, employment security, and retirement planning.

National Council on Aging
The National Council on Aging (NCOA) is the nation’s leading nonprofit service and advocacy organization representing older adults and the community organizations that serve them.

LeadingAge
The mission of LeadingAge is to expand the world of possibilities for aging. Their membership includes 6,000 not-for-profit organizations representing the entire field of aging services, 39 state partners, and hundreds of businesses, consumer groups, foundations, and research partners.

Education & Research

Alzheimer’s Association
The Alzheimer’s Association works on a global, national, and local level to enhance care and support for all those affected by Alzheimer’s and other dementias.

American Society on Aging
Founded in 1954 as the Western Gerontological Society, the American Society on Aging is an association of diverse individuals bound by a common goal: to support the commitment and enhance the knowledge and skills of those who seek to improve the quality of life of older adults and their families.

National Institute on Aging
Since 1974, the National Institute on Aging — one of the 27 Institutes and Centers of the National Institute of Health — has been at the forefront of the Nation’s research activities dedicated to understanding the nature of aging, supporting the health and well-being of older adults, and extending healthy, active years of life for more people.

Nutrition.gov provides easy access to vetted food and nutrition information from across the federal government. It serves as a gateway to reliable information on nutrition, healthy eating, physical activity, and food safety for consumers.

Alcohol addiction is a chronic disease characterized by loss of control over alcohol or drug use, cravings, and relapse.  It may be part of a dual diagnosis, and people with one or more types of addiction can learn to manage these disorders and become sober in addiction recovery. AlcoholTreatment.net is an organization dedicated to helping individuals seek recovery from alcohol addiction.

Legal Assistance

National Senior Citizens Law Center
The National Senior Citizens Law Center advocate at the administrative and legislative levels to ensure that laws and regulations work for poor seniors. The NSCLC trains over 10,000 advocates and service providers on the rights of poor seniors every year.

Public Agencies & Programs

Administration for Community Living
The Administration on Aging (AOA) is the principal agency of the U.S Department of Health and Human Services designated to carry out the provisions of the Older Americans Act. The OAA promotes the well-being of older individuals by providing services and programs designed to help them live independently in their homes and communities. The Act also empowers the federal government to distribute funds to the states for supportive services for individuals over the age of 60.

Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services
The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, previously known as the Health Care Financing Administration, is a federal agency within the United States Department of Health and Human Services that administers the Medicare program and works in partnership with state governments to administer Medicaid, the State Children’s Health Insurance Program, and health insurance portability standards.
